The Presidents Route
About This Route
New July 2019 – The Presidents Route.
The Royal Highland and Agricultural Society of Scotland presidents initiative 2019, The President the most honourable Marquis of Lothian has opened up this route to promote responsible use.
Please be aware this is a working estate and there may be farming and shooting activity at times. Please stay off the mown verges near the house.
The paths have been waymarked with horses and walkers in mind but be aware that there may be cyclists and other access takers on the route. This route has many options to link into other rides or as a stand-alone
A circular well-marked route, it takes you through the edges or fields and forest down to the river before following the course of the old railway line, then turning up the hill on some quiet backroads you are rewarded with some stunning views to the Cheviots, Jedburgh and Ruberslaw before the closer landmark of the Waterloo monument appears.
It is worth the short detour up to the monument as the views to the Eildons and beyond on a clear day are worth the extra half hour.
Carrying back on the route you are back onto woodland before coming back to your transport.
